The Bitter Blossom of the Plums: Yunnan Fruits Revealed

Anaguo Village is located in Yunnan, a place with a splendid ethnic culture. In August 2022, we ventured to this place with his children through fields of wild berries and forests rich in mushrooms. Conversations with three ethnic groups over two weeks revealed a surprising finding: locals have limited knowledge of the country’s constitution. Instead, unwritten customary laws govern their lives. Notable is the lack of a large police force. Instead, the order is maintained by local primary schools, older family members, and village elders. This documentary delves into informal social controls in villages, how they shape the behavioral choices of rural youth and the unique dynamics that maintain order in rural China.

The Healers Ⅰ:Jan, 2022

According to the National Institutes of Health, over 60% of Chinese doctors have dealt with doctor-patient or medical disputes. However, beneath these numbers is a human narrative that is often overlooked. In January 2022, our nine-person team focused on AnGang General Hospital, specifically from the director's perspective. Despite the widely held belief that doctors prioritize patient care, we aimed to dig further. The Documentary The Healers takes viewers on an intimate journey with three physicians. By removing layers of caregiving, medical competence, patience, and proficiency, we want to undermine the symbolic image of the "healer." Instead, we portray a more complete picture of these medical professionals as humans - not simply caretakers but also persons deserving of compassion, respect, and care.

The Healers Ⅱ:Jan, 2024

Inspired by The Healers I, in January 2024, a new group of ambitious high school students arrived at Anshan, Dongbei to document the doctors at AnSteel General Hospital. Aiming to further reveal realistic and holistic images of the healers, we followed a head nurse and an anesthetist to learn about the interaction of their diverse roles as parents, siblings, colleagues, leaders, and communicators.
